UPCOMING: Abracadabra Exhibition

The Arts and Culture Center of Hollywood opened their annual Abracadabra fundraiser exhibition/raffle on January 26 and man, what a lineup!  A lot of great artists from around the Miami/Hollywood area donated pieces to the cause, and it is a wonderful opportunity to acquire some beautiful work for a good price!  Check out the Abrcadabra page for more info on how to buy tickets, and don't forget to take a peek at the gallery to see whats up for grabs!  I donated the last painting from my Hollyhood Scope series that commemorated my mural right down the street.  The raffle event is February 21, so dont miss out!

UNDER THE SCOPE: the main event!

Here are some pics from my fully interactive, experiential installation for Basel week 2012, Under The Scope.  Being stationed on Washington Avenue was really cool...we had so many passers-by stop to play!  Annnd, since South Beach is my home, it was great to do something on this side of the bridge.  Take a look at these shots from Peter Vahan, and stay tuned for a behind-the-scenes video coming soon!!!

A big huge thank you to everyone who came out and gave the scope a spin!  Also, major props to William Ryan Fritch for his original soundtrack that accompanied the piece, and to my tech genius, Alain Lores.  I am lucky to call them both friends and colleagues, and each of their contributions made my idea come to life in the most amazing way.  But most of all, mega thanks to everyone at Chalk Miami who believed in this idea and made it all possible!!!

UNDER THE SCOPE: Miami Art Basel 2012

Miami-based artist Jessy Nite has forged a reputation for creating site-specific experiences that challenge and inspire viewers.  Launching during Miami’s fair week on Thursday, December 6 at 9:00 p.m. at 1234 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach, her latest show Under The Scope will again offer a window into Nite’s world of opulence, excess, addiction and tropical dreams.

"I've been painting kaleidoscopic images of things that cloud my head... wealth, excess, vice,” said Nite.  “With Under The Scope, I wanted to go beyond showing their representations and toward making them feel real."

A large kaleidoscope revealing the objects of Nite’s affection will be affixed to the sidewalk on Washington at 12th Street, inviting guests to take it for a spin.  With live video and projection mapping, the user will be immersed in the visuals of the scope as they’re broadcasted on one of Miami Beach's historic Art Deco buildings.

Nite explains, "I want people to feel powerful and dreamy when they use my kaleidoscope.  With giant swirling compositions of jewels, drugs and color, they’ll be entering the imaginary world from which I create.”

Following an explosive year with exhibitions and installations at Primary Projects, the Color Me Porno pop-up, Miami Modern Luxury’s 5th Anniversary and most recently, a City Commission by Hollywood’s Community Redevelopment Agency, Under the Scope is Nite's first step into the digital side of experiential contemporary art.  "My work as a digital art director has brought so many talented tech specialists into my creative space, and I have been plotting interactive art experiences with them in mind.  I'm excited for this opportunity to leap into a new medium."

Under the Scope opens with full interactivity on Thursday, December 6 from 9pm-3am, with complimentary cocktails and a reception hosted by Chalk Miami and NFA.  Live video from the event will be captured and displayed on site both Friday and Saturday night, December 7 and 8 from 9pm-5am.

LOCUST PROJECTS, MIAMI: Smash And Grab

Dropout, Approx 40in x 6in, Wood and Spraypaint

Awesome Miami gallery, Locust Projects, held their annual fundraiser, Smash & Grab last week.  They invite certain artists to donate a piece, and then put them up all over the walls salone style.  Then, one by one, they draw names of the collectors who purchased a ticket and the collectors run around and put their name on whatever piece caught their eye.  Its always really funny to see everyone trying to grab the best pieces and getting cray cray over it...its such a blast!  Heres a shot of my Dropout piece (originally from my solo show, Bad As I Wanna Be) from the event, and you can check this link to see more pics from the night!

UPCOMING: Downtown Hollywood Mural Project

Starting this month (October 2012) I will be a featured artist in the new Downtown Hollywood Mural Project!  Lebo kicked it off in August, and Ruben Ubiera has been cranking his piece out for September, and finally THIS WEEKEND I will get to start mine!  Read about it here.

The building at 1901 Harrsion Street is the most beautiful space to work with, so I put together a site specific execution of my colorful, kaleidoscoping diamonds and bold black and white lines to complement the corner of the historic downtown block.  I used to work around the corner from the building years ago, so I am really looking forward to getting back into the Hollywood funkkkk!

To commemorate the building, I will be releasing a series of small acrylic on paper pieces that will be available through my webstore on October 20th, the same night that I will be painting during the Downtown Hollywood Artwalk.  So, come on out and follow me on Instagram @JessyNite for process photos, progress and all of the craziness inbetween!

I will keep you posted about the event on the 20th!  CANT WAIT TO PAINT...WOOP WOOOOOP!

COLOR ME PORNO PLAYHOUSE: the opening!!!

(some of the girls before the coloring....and me after FINALLY finishing the install)

well well well wellll welllllllll...you guys have certainly outdone yourselves this time!!!  Jesus!  I just want to extend a really huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out to support the show on Friday! Man...that was just too much fucking fun!

Seeing everyone color the girls, lifting each other up for the dirty werd search, and get totally shitty drunk was so amazing.  My goal was to create an environment that turned my artwork into a fun, horny, drunken, debaucherous evening of interactivity, and I think it definitely worked!  The shit that everyone drew was SO awesome and hilarious, I could've never thought of that stuff myself.

There was a point in the night when, after stepping out for about 45 mins to spoke a joint, the party had officially reached "the next level" once I returned...crayons ground into the floor, people writing on the ceiling, air ducts, window, wood floor, couches, and anything else they could reach.  It was absolutely fucking crazy.  I loved it so much...

I will be photographing the space properly this week, but in the meantime, check out these flicks from the opening.  We will be opening the space for the Aftermath Viewing on FRIDAY, JULY 27th from 9-1am.  Erick Sermon will be spinning live, so DEFINITELY don't miss it!!!!!!!

(Miami Local PUCHO blessed me with this little section...pure magic)

(getting upppppp!)

(me getting so drunk, the camera even saw blurry)

(some dirty werd search action)

COLOR ME PORNO PLAYHOUSE: Upcoming Pop Up!!!

OH.  FUCK.  YESSSSSSSSSS.  You are cordially invited to the latest installment of Color Me Porno, the Playhouse Edition!!!  As part of the NFA HouseParty that is about to debut at Villa 221, I am doing an installation in two rooms of their new upstairs gallery, Skybox.

Opens Friday July 20th 9-1am
*Free draaaanks 9-11 from Voli Vodka
Presented by Primary Projects x NFA
Closes Thursday July 26th

The coloring wall at my show was really the most fun shit I've ever done, so I thought that instead of just hanging pieces in the gallery I would make the whole space like walking into the pages of one of my activity books: coloring, connect the dots, werd searches, etc.  It will be super fun and hilarious....I can't wait!!!  And its up for a whole week to party with!

If you come early, there will be free draaaaaanks from Voli Vodka 9-11
If you come late, the gallery is open til 1, but the party will be INSANE downstairs and in the yard.  The NFA dudes are Not Fuckin Around when it comes to raging!!!!

I really hope to see everyone out there...I am promising a good time.  Check the Press Release Below:

Primary Projects presents Jessy Nite's Color Me Porno Playhouse
An interactive breakthrough installation launching with NFA’s first event in a decade
Friday, July 20, 2012 at Villa 221 (221 NE 17th Street, Downtown/OMNI in Miami)

Color Me Porno Playhouse by Jessy Nite – Skybox Gallery, Mezzanine Level
Private Preview from 9:00 to 11:00 p.m., open to the public until 1:00 a.m.
On view through July 27, 2012

Miami, FL (July 10, 2012) – Primary Projects presents Jessy Nite’s Color Me Porno Playhouse, a pop-up produced in response to NFA’s dramatic return to Miami nightlife.  On the heels of Nite’s February 2012 solo exhibition Bad As I Wanna Be, the mixed media artist is expanding her Color Me Porno gallery installation into an interactive exhibition of pornographic proportions.  Just one floor above what is being billed as the revival of Miami’s golden age of parties, two giant rooms at Villa 221 (Skybox Gallery) will be transformed into an adult-themed playground.  Nite revamps childhood art games including connect the dots, word searches and coloring activities to both visually and viscerally complement sets by the legendary Tom Laroc and DJ Elle, with DJTonyG, Tommy Clark and Tony Bird Torrellio.  The first in a series of standout events by the NFA crew in more than a decade, Color Me Porno Playhouse launches on Friday, July 20 with a private preview of Nite’s installation sponsored by Voli Vodka from 9:00 to 11:00 p.m.  For more information and exhibition hours, please visit www.primaryprojectspace.com.

“This project with Primary Projects and NFA gave me the opportunity to create an unadulterated environment with no holds barred,” said Nite.  “Color Me Porno Playhouse taps into that intimate - perhaps uncomfortable - shy place, and turns a traditionally private emotion into an over-the-top, naughty collective experience.  The hyperbolized sexual imagery becomes a platform to have fun, self-express and be free.”

With Color Me Porno, Nite radically expands upon the draw-it-yourself and coloring components that emerged as a crowd pleaser at Bad As I Wanna Be.  The artist’s brash confidence and overtly sexualized line drawings lure the viewer into becoming willing participants in her work; and blur the lines between audience and performance, privacy and shared experience.

Jessy Nite is a multidisciplinary artist and graphic designer who studied shoe design at the Fashion Institute in New York and Art Direction at the Miami Ad School. She has exhibited both fine art and design projects in Miami, São Paulo and Bangkok. Press coverage includes HypeBeast, the Fader, and CG+Bangkok. Nite lives and works in Miami.

BEST OF MIAMI 2012

I am SOOOOOO fucking excited to say that PRIMARY PROJECTS won BEST GALLERY IN MIAMI this year, by the Miami New Times!!!  Congrats to the boys and all of their hard work, and congrats to the artists who have been a part of it all.  But, most of all, thank you to ALL of the PF supporters...collectors, friends, press ppl, and more...its been a great year and I am so proud and privileged to be a part of the PF fam-a-lammmm!!!

Check the article here!

BAD

Since Bad As I Wanna Be closed, we ditched the bed and now the piece is hanging as a wall mirror.  The bed was fun, but this shit looks dope!  Its funny to see my werk displayed differently than what I originally planned... I never would have thought of hanging it like this.  You gotta trust the experts tho...  Photo Cred: Peter Vahan  Piece Info: 4ft x 4ft, layered plexi glass

SALON de NOTRE SOCIETE: opening!

This past Saturday, Primary Projects Space had the opening of their first salone style exhibition, Salon de Notre Société!  It was cool to see little pieces left behind from all of the artists that have been showing there in the past year and a half, and it was incredible to see some new talent too.  I have some terrible iphone pics below, to show you!

The giant black flower painting was a show stopper...apparently the dude who painted it is super young, so we should for sure be seeing more cool stuff from him.

John Vale, who isn't necessarily new, had a SICK little diorama thing that was so tiny and detailed...I haven't seen him make something like that before and I was really gassed on his progression...plusssss he did my "All Thriller, No Filler" tatty, so I extra love him.  That was one of the best pieces in the show, though...so so soooooo rad.

Oh annnnd...I gotta say it...I loved the desk with my Paid piece hanging over it!!!  It looked the way I hoped it would in someone's home.  And, I was in  the best of company: book ended by my buddy, the super g Andrew Nigon, plus a few of my fav ceramic pieces from a very sick artist whose name I forgot...again....thats a Kim Jong Il teapot!  And the set in the drawer has a porcelain tooth!

But, I think that my true personal favorite came from my good friend Manny Prieres.  He is a technical master and does a lot of text in his work, but its the sayings he chooses that I go nuts for...his "WORK SETS YOU FREE" piece literally stopped me in my tracks while walking around...that saying is so powerful on its own and at first I thought of my favorite quote from Henry Rollins.  But when I then realized it was actually from the front gate at Auschwitz, I was blown away.  I like text because with the right kind of saying, the work becomes really emotional.  Manny!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway...another really great show...thanks PF and congrats to everyone who showed...it was a super fun one :D
